UBÚ REY
With the premier of Ubú Rey (King Ubu) at the Teatro Parakultural in Buenos Aires, El Periférico de Objetos begins its career that within more than 20 years of existence has accomplished a total of 11 theatrical productions. The material was not chosen by chance: Alfred Jarry’s King Ubu, the textual provocation that becomes foundational material and ars poetica of the group. The show -where the manipulators are dressed in black and with their faces covered- outlines the arch of Father Ubu’s passion. Ubú Rey traffics-under the shape of a regular tabletop puppet show for adults- great doses of cruelty, cynicism and dark humor. That twisted glance was the starting point for the creation of one of the most particular languages in Argentinean contemporary theatre.
